CASA OF THE MONTH
Our amazing CASA Volunteers make a difference in the lives of foster children every day. For your inspiration, we like to spotlight one of these everyday heroes as CASA Volunteer of the Month. This month we are pleased to feature Chris Plachta.
Why did you decide to become a CASA Volunteer?
I had always wanted to do some sort of volunteer work, but I never followed through and made a commitment. Finally in 2013 I made a New Year's resolution to do some kind of ongoing volunteer work. I found CASA through a google search for volunteer opportunities in San Mateo County.
How long have you been a CASA Volunteer and how many children have you worked with?
Three years. I have worked with one child.
What do you like best about volunteering with CASA?
There are so many things that are great about CASA. If I had to pick one, I would say I really enjoy forming a bond and long term relationship with a foster youth. There are many volunteer opportunities but few that involve a long term commitment to a single child.
How has being a CASA Volunteer positively impacted your life?
I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that I am using my time to help others.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I speak Portuguese and play Brazilian music.
